Supervised Independent Living

At Southern Ingenuity we offer Supervised Independent Living Services to eligible individuals for the purpose of providing crucial specialized support for individuals and families who wish to live independently from their loved ones.

We work with the support coordination system to offer individuals and families who elect this support from the menu of services a quality, reliable service framed for individual needs, as well as tailored for individual family needs.

Supervised Independent Living (SIL) means individuals may receive the support necessary to compliment the efforts of those in their network of friends and family therefore making it a greater possibility of success in their own home.

More often than not, families and individuals considering an independent living arrangement are filled with questions and concerns regarding the support they will receive. Supervised Independent Living services can provide support in many areas where concerns exist. Many questions families and individuals have revolved around issues connected to a successful placement. Pertinent issues will involve a safe place for them to live, an on call system available for crisis and moments when someone is needed to lean on, money matters, medication, accessibility to needed services and community access, mechanical supports, and transportation. Each question must be addressed for the individual to feel comfortable and confident in their decision to move out on their own.

Services provided to the individual will include a thorough assessment of current abilities, a plan of care directed at supporting the individual’s needs, and assistance with and/or training in the performance of tasks related to maintaining, acquiring or improving skills in the areas of personal grooming, bathing, housekeeping, bed making, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, cooking, shopping, medication administration and money management.

Individuals that will qualify for the services will be developmentally disabled adults (over 18) that are competent majors that have sufficient rudimentary skills to provide a basic foundation for success. Individuals interdicted will have to obtain the support of their Tutor prior to admission into the program. Individuals admitted into the program will sign a service agreement that outlines the services provided and gives Southern Ingenuity the opportunity to support the individual in their home.

We offer supported independent living services of excellent quality by assuring that the program design is consumer driven, individualized, flexible and highly specialized. We recognize that each individual has unique needs, expectations and desires. We are committed to ascertain to the best of our ability, on a completely individualized basis what each consumer wants and needs in terms of support services. We will then train staff on all the relevant specifics of each consumer, offer continual ongoing support and supervision, and establish an avenue of frequent communication with consumers and their families in order to assure continued quality service.
